Israeli Strikes Kill at Least 10 Palestinians in Gaza as Ceasefire Talks Continue

GAZA CITY: Israeli airstrikes and naval attacks across Gaza have killed several Palestinians, including women, children and a teenage fisherman, as violence continues despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement.
According to Palestinian health officials and local medics, at least 10 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza City on Thursday, including five members of the same family. The attacks reportedly targeted several apartments before dawn, leaving many others injured.
Witnesses described scenes of destruction after the strikes, with damaged buildings, scattered debris and rescue workers searching for survivors under the rubble. One young girl was reportedly the only survivor from a family home destroyed during the attack.
Residents said people were sleeping when the missiles hit the area in the middle of the night. Medical officials confirmed that at least 15 people were also wounded in the strikes and taken to Al-Shifa Hospital for treatment.
In another incident, a 15-year-old Palestinian fisherman, identified as Muhammad Musa Abu Giab, was killed after Israeli naval forces opened fire near the coast of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza. Local sources said the teenager had been working as a fisherman before being shot during heavy gunfire from Israeli warships.
Israeli naval vessels also reportedly fired shells and machine guns toward Gaza City’s coastline, increasing fear among civilians already struggling through months of conflict and humanitarian crisis.
The latest attacks come as ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas remain stalled. Although a truce has technically been in place since October, violence has continued almost daily across Gaza.
According to Gaza health authorities, more than 950 Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured since the ceasefire began. Palestinian officials say most victims are civilians, including women and children.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently announced plans for Israeli forces to take control of nearly 70 percent of the Gaza Strip, further increasing tensions in the region.
Reports also stated that senior Hamas military commander Mohammed Odeh was killed in an Israeli strike last week, following the death of another Hamas commander the previous month.
Fresh negotiations involving Hamas, Egypt, Qatar and other mediators are currently taking place in Cairo in an effort to save the fragile ceasefire agreement. Hamas officials reportedly want Israeli attacks to stop completely before moving toward the next phase of negotiations.
The ongoing war between Israel and Hamas began after the October 2023 attacks, which Israel says killed around 1,200 people and led to the capture of hostages. Since then, Gaza’s health authorities say nearly 73,000 Palestinians have been killed, while thousands more remain displaced, injured or trapped in worsening humanitarian conditions.
The continuing violence has triggered global concern as international organizations and world leaders call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza.
