Pakistan Army MI-17 Helicopter Crashes Near Muzaffarabad, All Military Personnel On Board Martyred

A Pakistan Army MI-17 helicopter crashed near Muzaffarabad in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, resulting in the martyrdom of all military personnel on board. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the helicopter went down during takeoff due to a technical fault, and there were no survivors.

The military said rescue and recovery teams were immediately dispatched to the crash site after the incident was reported. Officials confirmed that all personnel aboard the helicopter lost their lives in the accident. The exact number of military personnel on board has not yet been officially disclosed.

A board of inquiry has been ordered to determine the precise cause of the crash. Military authorities said investigators will examine technical and operational factors that may have contributed to the accident.

Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the martyrs. The Pakistan Army also paid tribute to the dedication and service of the personnel who lost their lives while performing their duties.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed grief over the tragedy. Both leaders praised the sacrifices made by the armed forces and offered prayers for the martyrs and their families. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and several political leaders also conveyed their condolences.

The Russian-made MI-17 helicopter has been a key part of Pakistan Army Aviation for many years and is widely used for transport, rescue missions, disaster response, and security operations. Despite its strong service record, the fleet has experienced several accidents in recent years, often linked to technical faults or challenging operational conditions.

The helicopter crash comes at a sensitive time in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, where authorities have increased security measures following recent unrest in parts of the region. However, military officials have stated that the crash was caused by a technical issue and there is currently no indication of any external involvement.

As investigations continue, the nation mourns the loss of the brave military personnel who sacrificed their lives in service to Pakistan. More details are expected to be released once the inquiry team completes its initial assessment of the accident.
