NADRA Introduces New Online ID Card Service for Overseas Pakistanis
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has expanded its digital identity services, making it easier for overseas Pakistanis to apply for and manage their identity documents online. Through the official PakID mobile application, Pakistanis living abroad can now complete most identity card services without visiting a NADRA office or the Pakistani embassy in person.
The move is part of NADRA’s ongoing effort to improve digital public services and provide faster, more convenient access to identity documents for millions of Pakistanis living overseas.
Overseas Pakistanis Can Apply Online
Using the PakID mobile app, eligible applicants can apply for a new National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP), renew an existing card, update personal information, request a reprint for lost or damaged cards, and track the status of their application online. The app also supports online document uploads and digital fee payments.
According to NADRA, the platform is designed to allow users to complete identity-related processes from anywhere in the world using their smartphone.
What Is NICOP?
The National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) is an official identity document issued to Pakistani citizens living abroad. It serves as proof of Pakistani nationality and identity and also allows eligible holders to enter Pakistan without needing a visa. NADRA currently issues modern Smart NICOP cards and QR-code-enabled NICOPs with enhanced security features.
More Digital Services Available
Besides NICOP services, the PakID platform also provides access to several other facilities, including Family Registration Certificates (FRC), Pakistan Origin Cards (POC), application tracking, online appointment booking, digital identity cards, and secure online payments through multiple payment methods.
Applicants can also upload supporting documents directly through the app, making the process faster and reducing paperwork.
Improved Experience for Overseas Pakistanis
NADRA says the upgraded online system aims to improve convenience and reduce the need for long-distance travel to embassies or registration centers. The authority has also launched an upgraded website that brings CNIC, NICOP, POC, and other identity services together under one digital platform.
While many applications can be completed entirely online, some cases may still require biometric verification or a visit to a NADRA Registration Centre, depending on the applicant’s circumstances.
NADRA Warns Against Unauthorized Agents
NADRA has also advised overseas Pakistanis to use only its official PakID app and website when applying for identity documents. The authority recently warned that it does not authorize private agents or consultants to process applications on its behalf and urged applicants to avoid third-party services to protect their personal information and prevent fraud.
