Pakistani Australian Girl Killed After Police Open Fire on Family Car in Pakistan

A tragic incident in Pakistan’s Punjab province has left an Australian family devastated after a nine-year-old girl was killed when police allegedly opened fire on the family’s vehicle in a case of mistaken identity.

According to reports, the family from Perth, Australia, was visiting relatives in Chakwal when the incident occurred late Wednesday night. The family had recently returned from a pilgrimage to Makkah and was traveling in a rental car when they reportedly became victims of an armed robbery.

Local media reported that two suspected robbers on a motorcycle fled the scene after being spotted by police. At the same time, the family’s rental vehicle also drove away from the area. Police officers allegedly mistook the family’s car for that of the fleeing suspects and opened fire.

The shooting resulted in the death of nine-year-old Hania Ahmed, while her father and 11-year-old brother suffered serious injuries. Her mother escaped unharmed. The injured family members were rushed to hospital, where the young girl was pronounced dead. Her father has since been discharged, while her brother continues to receive medical treatment.

The incident has sparked shock and sadness among both Pakistani and Australian communities. Pakistan’s local authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the tragic mistake occurred and whether police officers followed proper procedures before opening fire.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that it is providing consular assistance to the affected family. In a statement, officials expressed their deepest condolences and support during this difficult time.

The Pakistani Association of Western Australia described the incident as heartbreaking, saying the community is mourning the loss of a young child whose life was cut short in a tragic misunderstanding.

Western Australia Attorney General Tony Buti also expressed sorrow over the incident, describing it as a devastating case of mistaken identity. He said the Australian government stands with the family and the wider Pakistani-Australian community during this painful period.

The tragic death of Hania Ahmed has raised serious questions about police procedures and the use of force during emergency situations. As investigations continue, both Pakistani and Australian authorities are expected to closely monitor the case and seek answers for the grieving family.

The incident has drawn international attention and renewed calls for greater accountability and improved policing practices to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
