Lahore Gang Rape Victim Dies After Failed Abortion Procedure, Murder Case Registered

A tragic case from Lahore has shocked people across Pakistan after an 18-year-old domestic worker allegedly died due to complications during a failed abortion procedure following months of alleged gang rape.
According to police reports, the young woman worked as a domestic helper in Lahore’s Model Town area, where she accused her employer’s son and the family driver of repeatedly sexually assaulting her over several months. The case came into the spotlight after the victim died while undergoing treatment at Services Hospital Lahore.
Police said the victim had recorded a video statement before her death in which she accused the two men of gang rape. According to investigators, the assaults allegedly began in November 2025 and continued for nearly five months, resulting in her pregnancy.
The victim reportedly informed her parents about the assaults and pregnancy. Authorities said she was later taken to a private clinic in Raiwind for an abortion procedure after her condition became serious. However, complications developed during the procedure, and doctors reportedly discovered that she was suffering from severe medical issues related to a miscarriage involving a four to five-month-old fetus.
As her health continued to deteriorate, she was shifted to Services Hospital in Lahore on May 23, where doctors placed her under critical care. Hospital officials alerted police after learning about the circumstances surrounding the case.
Police registered an FIR against the accused individuals based on the victim’s initial statements and video testimony. The case initially involved gang rape charges but later included murder sections after the victim died during surgery at the hospital.
Investigators said the victim later changed parts of her statement before her death and blamed only the driver. However, police believe pressure may have been exerted on her by influential individuals and family members to protect the employer’s son. Authorities confirmed that her earlier video statement would remain key evidence in the investigation.
Police officials stated that one suspect, the driver, has been arrested and sent to judicial custody, while other accused individuals reportedly obtained bail. The investigation has now been transferred from the Gender Cell to the Investigation Wing for a complete re-investigation of all suspects, including possible involvement of family members and clinic staff.
Authorities are also waiting for the final postmortem report to determine the exact cause of death and examine whether medical negligence or illegal abortion procedures contributed to the tragedy.
The case has triggered outrage on social media and renewed discussions about violence against women, sexual abuse, exploitation of domestic workers, and illegal abortion practices in Pakistan. Human rights activists and women’s rights groups are demanding strict action against everyone involved and calling for better protection for vulnerable women and girls across the country.
The heartbreaking incident has once again highlighted serious concerns regarding women’s safety, abuse of power by influential individuals, and delays in justice for victims of sexual violence in Pakistan.
