DPO Hafizabad Transferred After Asking MPA’s Son Why He Used His Toilet
A surprising incident in Hafizabad has become one of the most talked-about stories in Punjab after a senior police officer was transferred following a dispute involving a local PML-N lawmaker’s son and the use of a washroom inside the District Police Officer (DPO) office.
According to reports, Hafizabad DPO Kamran Hamid was removed from his position after an inquiry ordered by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The inquiry was conducted by Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem following complaints about an argument that took place inside the DPO office.
The incident reportedly happened when PML-N MPA Shahid Bhatti visited the DPO office along with several local residents to discuss police-related issues. During the meeting, the MPA’s son entered the office and later used the washroom located inside the DPO’s private retiring room.
Sources say DPO Kamran Hamid questioned why the young man had used his personal washroom without permission. The MPA’s son reportedly responded that it was a government office and not a private residence. The exchange quickly became heated, and both sides allegedly exchanged harsh words.
According to reports, the police officer, angered by the response, told the MPA’s son to “get lost.” The lawmaker then stepped in and attempted to calm the situation before leaving the office with his son.
However, the matter did not end there. The incident quickly spread across Hafizabad and became a major topic of discussion on social media. Political workers and local residents began debating who was at fault, while a social media post featuring the phrase “get lost” and an image of a toilet further fueled the controversy.
The issue eventually reached senior political leaders, including members of the influential Tarar family. Complaints were reportedly forwarded to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who directed the Punjab IGP to investigate the matter and hear both sides.
During the inquiry, DPO Kamran Hamid reportedly explained that he objected to the use of the washroom because personal belongings and official documents were kept inside his retiring room. However, sources claim that the explanation did not satisfy the authorities.
Following the inquiry, the Punjab government decided to transfer Kamran Hamid from his post as Hafizabad DPO. He was later assigned to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), which is generally considered a less prominent position compared to leading a district police force.
The transfer sparked mixed reactions across Punjab. Some social media users criticized the police officer’s behavior, while others argued that government offices should remain accessible to the public. The incident also started a wider debate about whether visitors have the right to use facilities inside government offices, including washrooms designated for officials.
Several police officers reportedly came forward in support of Kamran Hamid, expressing concerns that the transfer could affect the morale of officers serving in the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP). Some senior officials are said to have requested that he be appointed to another important position to maintain the dignity of the department.
